Princes Foods - Transforming their Daily sales report with SAP Analytics Cloud

About the customer

Princes Group is an international food and drink group involved in the manufacture, import and distribution of branded and customer own-brand products. Customers include major supermarkets, convenience stores, foodservice operators, wholesale suppliers and other food manufacturers. Princes’ brands and products span over 20 different categories including fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, soups, pastes, pasta, cooking sauces, edible oils and a broad range of soft drinks sectors.

The Challenges

Princes Group were using SAP BW to populate their Daily Sales report. This pdf report is circulated to multiple stakeholders via email every morning. The report was presented in a tabular format and lacked the level interactivity, depth and visual appeal that knowledge workers have come to expect. User feedback revealed that these report recipients were looking for an interactive Sales dashboard.

The Solution

After a series of user experience workshops, observing the processes and user interaction involved, the Bluestonex design team began iterating low fidelity dashboard designs.

As an SAP Partner and User Experience (UX) specialist Bluestonex reviewed options from both a tactical level and strategic view point. It was proposed that Princes Foods adopt SAP Analytics Cloud as the best available tool to build a Sales dashboard for the initial proof of concept. Key stakeholders were engaged to ensure use of the right data and optimum presentation in the form of charts on the dashboard. Pilot users commented that the dashboards are very responsive and can be accessed easily on any device.

The Architecture

In this scenario, SAP BW generates the data in MS Excel format and the file gets stored on a file server inside Princes Network. The SAP Analytics Cloud tenant uses file server connection to read the file which has been exposed through SAP Analytics Cloud Agent and SAP Business Technology Platform Cloud Connector.

The Results

The analytical stories gave the stakeholders many benefits. Some of them include :

• Visual display of the Daily Sales Report
• Better insights of the sales data
• Ability to interact with data
• Increased efficiency and productivity as they do not have to look at tabular report and then derive conclusion
• Drilldown capability to see material groups and customer groups for sectors and customers
• Top/Bottom 5 material groups or customer groups
