SAP Cloud Platform Services (Webinar)
(Updated December 2025)
In early 2021, SAP Cloud Platform was entering the final phase of its evolution before being fully repositioned as the SAP Business Technology Platform. While the name change to BTP had already been announced, many customers in May 2021 were still actively using SAP Cloud Platform services to extend, integrate and modernise their SAP landscapes.
At that time, SAP Cloud Platform offered a mature and comprehensive set of services focused on application development, integration, data management and security. We hosted this webinar to run through several staples of the SAP Cloud Platform Services to demonstrate how this can support digital transformation within a business. Get all the information you need about services on the SAP Cloud Platform in this webinar.
A Quick Overview of the SAP Cloud Platform
The SAP Cloud Platform (Now rebranded to the SAP Business Technology Platform, or BTP for short) is an enterprise platform as a service designed to help enterprises innovate, integrate and extend applications with agility, flexibility and choice.
It’s an agile layer that will allow you, the customer, to request and (co-)build new innovation outside of, but at the same time integrate with, the core systems running your core business.
The agile layer is where you can apply more modern disruptive methods and technologies allowing breakthrough innovation & new innovative business models.
Why use the Cloud Platform Services?
The Cloud can be taken as a vague term for an intangible miracle platform. However, it’s fast becoming a standard for many well-known organisations that operate globally. SAP has been working on its own Cloud Launchpad for some time. We have been following this progress at Bluestonex and believe that it’s the beginning of a very powerful offering for an organisation’s digital transformation.
The SAP Cloud Launchpad removes back-end landscape and component dependencies. Users always have access to the latest versions and innovations without the need for manual patching.
The Launchpad creates a single unified entry point able to connect to multiple back-end SAP or non-SAP systems, external databases and some external API’s.
The SAP Cloud Platform central Fiori launchpad opens the door to extending and enhancing your applications with cloud technologies and services on the front lines of innovation.

Development & Build Tools
Application development centres around the Cloud Foundry environment, which supports multiple programming languages and frameworks, alongside the ABAP environment for cloud-native ABAP development. For cloud-native and microservices-driven scenarios, the Kyma runtime enables Kubernetes-based extensions. Development is typically carried out using SAP Web IDE or the newer SAP Business Application Studio, with strong support for SAPUI5, Fiori, and the Cloud Application Programming Model.
Data & Database Services
On the data side, SAP Cloud Platform services include SAP HANA Cloud as a fully managed database service, allowing organisations to build side-by-side applications and analytical extensions without impacting core ERP systems. Additional data services such as object storage, PostgreSQL, and Redis support a wide range of transactional and unstructured data scenarios.
Integration & Connectivity
Integration is one of the platform’s strongest capabilities. SAP Cloud Platform Integration, which later becomes part of SAP Integration Suite, enables API-led and message-based integration between SAP and non-SAP systems. Core services such as destinations, connectivity, and the SAP Cloud Connector make it possible to securely connect cloud applications to on-premise landscapes — a critical requirement for many SAP customers.
Automation and Intelligent Services
Automation and workflow services are also well established. SAP Workflow Management, business rules, job scheduling, and alerting allow organisations to orchestrate processes beyond the core ERP. Intelligent RPA is available for task automation, reflecting SAP’s push toward intelligent enterprise scenarios.
Security and identity services underpin all SAP Cloud Platform services. Identity Authentication and Identity Provisioning handle single sign-on and user lifecycle management, while audit logging and credential storage support compliance and secure operations.

UX & Portal Services
User experience is delivered through the SAP Launchpad and portal services, providing a central entry point for custom applications, Fiori apps, and extensions built on the platform.
Overall, SAP Cloud Platform services provide the foundations organisations rely on to innovate, integrate, and automate their SAP landscapes. Understanding these capabilities helps put current projects, and resources like this webinar, into context as companies plan their next steps on SAP BTP.
